Phone Services for Individuals

Overview

The UBCO Softphone Service enables users to make calls, control desk phones, manage contacts, view call history, and access voicemail via a desktop computer or mobile application, using the internet.  This service is provided through an application called MiCollab Client.

  • Uses an assigned UBC Okanagan phone number
  • Easy to use interface to make and manage calls
  • Removes the requirement to have a desk phone with an option to use a desk phone if preferred
  • Make calls from anywhere!  Users can stay connected no matter where they are – at home, on campus, traveling, or wherever they are with an internet connection

Requirements & Eligibility

The service requires: 

  • An internet connection with good signal strength if using wireless
  • A computer with Windows or MacOS
  • A headset or built-in computer speaker and microphone, when opting for Softphone only (no desk phone)

Costs

The UBCO Softphone Service is $10 per month, including long-distance.  Staff can request a desk phone for an additional $5 per month.

Pricing is subject to change, and will be communicated in advance.

Note: Mobile phones are not provided by UBC. Departments may opt to reimburse staff and faculty for personal mobile phones. To determine eligibility, speak with your supervisor or department admin.

Support

  • Support is available during UBCO IT regular business hours. Troubleshooting off-campus is not available for home network issues, peripheral devices, or non-UBC computing devices.
  • Due to the flexibility of the UBCO Softphone Service, support may be limited; specifically using the service on mobile phones or non-UBC computing devices.
