IT Information for New Students
Welcome to UBC Okanagan!
UBC IT Okanagan (UBCO IT) offers technology solutions and tools to enhance experience at UBC Okanagan (UBCO). This information page is intended to provide new students information which you’ll need to know.
Your Campus Wide Login (CWL) is the key for your UBC journey. You received your CWL username when you applied to UBC.
The CWL provides you access to UBC’s online applications with the same username and password. A CWL account provides you with access to Workday, the Library, myUBC, Canvas, and more.
All services and applications that require a CWL account to log in will also require a second factor of authentication.
UBC’s MFA is provided by Cisco Duo and will be required to access UBC systems when off UBC’s network or wifi (i.e., when off campus).
Once you are enrolled you can manage any of the authentication methods associated with your account, including adding or removing a device.

Workday is where you will find online access to your student account, grades, transcripts, and other important business you may have with UBC. You will use these systems to build your schedule, register for classes, pay your fees, accept awards and more. To log into the systems, you will need your CWL.
If you haven’t already done so, take a few minutes to ensure your information in Workday is correct. Check the spelling of your name, and your email address, and make sure you have submitted proof of your citizenship or permanent resident status where requested.
All active and registered students are eligible to sign up for a UBC email account that can be used to send and receive mail. The format of your email address will be [cwl]@student.ubc.ca.
This account will also grant you access to a range of UBC services, including Microsoft Teams and OneDrive.

Do you need access to a laptop? The UBC Okanagan Library has a limited number of laptops available for loan. Find out more and see what is available:
UBCO Constellations offers a suite of emerging media and technology to faculty, staff, and students. Spaces are available for use by all UBC Okanagan staff, faculty and students.
UBC Studios Okanagan is a media production centre and equipment loans service dedicated to supporting UBC’s vision, purpose and values through the enhancement of education, research, campus experience and community engagement.
Do you need access to Wi-Fi? The UBCsecure Wireless network allows students to connect to the internet on the UBC campus at high-speeds 24×7.
ResNet connects UBC student residences to the campus network and the internet. It provides high-speed access to the internet for students via wireless service.
All students who live in a residence at UBCO have access to the ResNet service.

* Active students can download M365 Office applications on multiple devices (up to five PCs or Macs, five tablets, and five phones per user), including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
With your UBC student email, you will have access to:
- OneDrive (Your Personal Online Storage): Microsoft (MS) OneDrive is a file hosting and synchronization service operated by Microsoft, as part of their suite of MS 365 applications. MS OneDrive allows users to securely store, share, and synchronize files and folders from anywhere at any time. OneDrive can be accessed online at https://portal.office.com using a personal or UBC device.
- Personal Network Storage: While on a UBC computer, students have access to a personal network drive (H drive).
Do you need need to use a computer, find a study room or require assistive technology? The UBC Okanagan Library is a vibrant space full of services, varied study spaces, technology and library collections.
UBCO has implemented a central pay for print service to meet students’ printing and copy needs. This has been established to support UBC’s sustainability objectives.
Student printers are provided by UBCO and are accessible for use by all active students.
LockDown Browser is a custom browser used during a testing environment. It prevents you from copying, printing, accessing other applications, or visiting websites while taking a test or exam.
