Enhanced CWL
Overview
Keeping information secure is a priority at UBC, and as part of our ongoing effort to enhance cybersecurity, we are introducing Enhanced CWL (multifactor authentication) to all faculty and staff across the university. As cybersecurity tools become more sophisticated, hackers are targeting users, not computers, to discover and exploit their credentials.
Multifactor authentication uses your password, along with a second verification step — a uniquely generated number sent by phone or a number generated by a security token — to validate logins. By adding this technology to university applications, we will strengthen security by requiring two or more methods to verify a user’s identity.
